Counselling for Eating Disorders in Crewe and Nantwich or Online
As not all eating disorders are the same, a single technique for counselling for eating disorders or body-image issues cannot be used. Instead, it needs to be individualised around what you need. Counselling geared towards eating disorders does not look at medical approaches or diets or rigid routines. It’s about your feelings around it, and helping you find a way to live more comfortably rather than fighting or battling everything and everyone. The same approach applies to body-related issues such as trichotillomania (hair-pulling), self-harm or body dysmorphia (an intense dislike of our body).
I don’t view these as ‘disorders’. You are an individual with your own thoughts and feelings and need to be listened to and respected. It’s your life and you have the right to live it however you wish. But if there’s something you’re not happy with, talk to me about it.
I also don’t impose a routine unless you want something solid and fixed. I’m happy to give flexibility on the number of sessions, frequency and length so that you can get the support you need, when you need it.
It might not be a quick process though. The underlying feelings and emotions may take time to work through before you feel comfortable and recovered.
How Counselling for Eating Disorders Can Help
Counselling for eating disorders or other body-related issues doesn’t mean medical or nutritional advice or dietary support. It also can’t change how other people might feel towards you. Sometimes you might just want to talk about it and that is absolutely fine.
Other times there might be something specific you need to deal with, perhaps dealing with someone or a specific situation like Christmas or the summer holidays or a forthcoming event. That’s fine too. Sometimes you might just need an outlet that family and friends can’t provide.
The key thing is being listened to, not judged, and not told what to do or how you ‘should’ feel. Good counselling for eating disorders will provide that, so you can find a way of living with what’s happening.
I can work with body image issues (body dysmorphia), anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, comfort eating and overeating, whether you have a formal diagnosis or not. I also work with body-related behaviours such as trichotillomania (hair-pulling) and other forms of physical self-harm. If you feel you have an issue with eating, food or body issues, or want help in having a more balanced, comfortable approach to food, eating and your body, I can help.
I am what’s known as a person-centred counsellor but also use elements of solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy and mindfulness to help you get the support you need. But you don’t need to work out what kind of help you need, that’s what we do together. You can read more about the different forms of therapy that are available.

Changing Behaviour & Thinking Patterns
If you’re stuck in a rut of unhelpful behaviour and thinking patters, CBT and solution-focused brief therapy can help. You don’t have to identify the causes, but you can find ways to help you think and feel better.
Neuroaffirmative Therapy
Neuroaffirming therapy and counselling means accepting how people are without trying to change them. It is particularly useful with neurodiversity where people are often diagnosed and ‘treated’. Learn how to celebrate who you are and live from it.
Therapy for Men
Men are often taught to endure and tough it out rather than engaging with how they feel, but this damages mental health. Counselling specifically for men can help you learn how to live a happier, more fulfilled life.
