Couples Counselling in Cheshire

My couples counselling in Cheshire is designed to help you get more out of your relationships. Intimate relationships can bring us immense joy but also distress when they are not working the way we would like.

When our relationships aren’t harmonious we may think there is something wrong with either us or our partner. But maybe that isn’t true. Maybe it’s because we haven’t learnt to know our needs and discuss them effectively.

In couples counselling the emphasis isn’t on you and your perceived problems, it’s the relationship. The relationship is the client. Individual therapy is designed for our own problems with couples counselling focusing on how it affects the relationship.

When to use Couples Counselling

Couples counselling may sound like marriage guidance or similar. But couples counselling is not just designed for married couples or those living together, it can help whether you’ve been together for decades, or are starting a new relationship.

It can also be used when couples don’t live together but want to make their time together happier and more joyous. Or it might help a couple who are planning to live together (married or otherwise) to understand more about each other’s needs. They can then build something that works well for both of them.

Couples counselling is also not just aimed at heterosexual couples. It works equally well with same-sex couples or more complex family situations.

It can save relationships, but sometimes it’s too late for that. In this case it can help to make splitting more amicable rather than full of anger, disagreement and bitterness. More acceptable arrangements can then be made for children, businesses and other joint obligations.

Sexual difficulties are common in relationships. Sometimes they may be the cause of problems, or they could be caused by something else with an unfulfilling sex life as a result. Good couples counselling can help you address this.

How I Can Help

Couples counselling is normally best delivered in-person rather than online as it’s easier to facilitate discussions that way. I have comfortable, tranquil premises in Shavington between Crewe and Nantwich (Cheshire) but I also do online via Zoom. Online is useful when it is difficult for both parties to be at a specific place at a specific time.

I don’t insist on a fixed regular time slot, I’m happy to be flexible to suit your requirements. Sessions are normally longer than those for individual therapy to give both parties the time needed to discuss everything they need to. An hour and a half is common with the normal cost being £70 (£50 for one hour).

I normally like to have a free, no obligation 15-30 minute online discussion with both of you before the first session. This helps me understand you more and gives you the opportunity to make sure you are comfortable with me or to ask any questions about it you may have.

If you would like to see if I can help, fill in the contact form and we can arrange an initial, free, no-obligation discussion.
