Personal Approach to Support

Although my working career has been in business and self-employment, I realise now that I am naturally a teacher, guide and mentor, hence why I am now a counsellor, therapist and coach.

I believe that all forms of therapy and counselling need personal awareness. Without the ability to see, observe and understand what is happening with our thoughts, feelings and actions, any form of therapy is unlikely to be successful.

The aim of many therapies is to find ways of eliminating or reducing what you might perceive as being a ‘problem’. When we think of ‘counselling’ that is normally exactly what we think. There’s nothing wrong with that of course, but sometimes we actually want to look at how to make our lives happier, more joyful or peaceful and lighter – whatever makes our souls and hearts sing. So I like to help with both – the problems that need resolving and the joys you can seek.

The shape of our lives is made up of two elements:

  • how we respond to the actions of others or the things life presents to us,
  • the conscious choices we make and actions we take.

Our life now is based on our history, a combination of how we’ve responded to our experiences and the choices we’ve made. We are living out the consequences of decisions and responses made 5, 10, 20 or even 50 years ago. Similarly, how our life will look in a few years will be based on the responses and decisions we make now. This is where mindfulness and understanding our thinking patterns is wonderfully helpful as it helps us get a better grasp of what we do and the consequences of it.

Being able to see the world in different ways and having flexible thinking means you are better able to navigate the world and make decisions that help bring more happiness, less unhappiness and ultimately more satisfaction and peace. If we do less of what makes us unhappy and more of what does make us happy there can be only one possible outcome; a more peaceful, happier life.
